As I walked to the tram, yesterday, while heading to the Red Light District, I stopped at my favorite coffee shop that was on the way. I needed to kill some time as it had started raining cats and dogs and I didn't have an umbrella with me. After trying a little something that was imported from Jamaica, the rain finally stopped and I left to catch the tram.
I took the following shots of a boat that was dredging the bottom of one of the canals before reaching the tram station.
It is amazing what one can find and it made me wonder how the bicycle got down there. I'm glad a body wasn't pulled up with it.
I got off of the tram at the stop on Damstraat by Dam Square. I forgot to bring the directions that were given to me in the email from the individual mentioned in my last installment who had owned a bar on the fringe of the district. Fortunately, I had a map of the district and I wormed my way through several streets before I found the following.
The above location made me think of my friend in Paris, Oldoc. I'm sure that he would love it here!
The next series of photographs show the contrast between day and night of a few locations in the district...
A Bevy of Swans
The heart of the Red Light District, famous for its legal prostitution, features a bevy of beauties on display. Lining both sides of the canal are little glass enclosed showcases of scantily clad women and at times, woman impersonators displaying their wares... so buyers, beware.
I'm returning to the Red Light District later today for further exploration. There is a lady there to whom I promised my return that I must visit again. Also, I'll be bringing the directions that I wrote down when I was in the coffee shop the day before yesterday from the former bar owner's email and will try to find his old establishment.
So, until the next installment of this chronology of fun and frolick by this writer, traveler and photographer... Tot straks. Click Here
